Deck Construction

Which Decking Material Is Best: Cedar, Pressure-Treated, or Composite?

Building a deck is a priceless investment in a safe, enjoyable outdoor living space. When the time comes to add a deck to your home, contact LPB Construction Inc. in Cleveland, OH. For three generations, the LaPonza family has dedicated themselves to superior craftsmanship and quality construction. Whether you choose to build a deck from natural wood, pressure-treated lumber, or Timbertech Composite Decking, we guarantee you will enjoy the benefits of owning a deck for many years to come.

Pressure-Treated Decking

Currently, pressure-treated lumber is the most commonly used and least expensive decking material available. The lumber is soaked in anti-rot and insecticide agents. Hence, the wood stands up to the natural elements for a longer period of time than untreated lumber. Even still, pressure-treated lumber must be stained or sealed every two to three years to prevent warping and splitting.

Natural Wood Decks

If you prefer the look of natural wood, cedar is your best option. Cedar is beautiful, natural, and tends to resist warping and cracking. However, cedar is more expensive than pressure-treated lumber and requires annual maintenance to maintain its beauty. Typically, we recommend sanding and sealing natural wood decks every year to prevent fading and decay.

Composite Decking

LPB Construction is an authorized contractor of Timbertech Composite Decking. Composite decking is increasingly popular among homeowners because it is eco-friendly and incredibly low-maintenance. The decking material is made of recycled plastic and wood fibers, making it resistant to warping, rotting, splitting, and mold growth. Additionally, Timbertech offers incredible warranties on their products, ranging from 25 to 50 years!
